| People's Daily editorial hails May Day |

The People's Daily, a leading newspaper in China, is to publish an editorial Saturday, to mark the "International Labor Day" on May 1, send festive greetings to the working class, and salute "Model Workers" and "Advanced Workers".
Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the working class has become the main force of the reform, opening and modernization drive, the editorial says.
The editorial lists a number of top "Model Workers" in the country and urges people to respect and learn from them, and compete for being a "Model Worker".
It terms the historic task of building an overall well-off society by the whole Party and the people in the new century and new period as the main theme for the contemporary workers' movement in China.
The editorial urges Party committees of all levels to further strengthen and improve their leadership over trade unions and let them play a better role.
