Senior Chinese official Liu Yunshan met Monday with foreign delegates to the 36th World Magazine Congress held in Beijing from May 13 to 15, calling for more international cooperation in the magazine industry.
Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said China attaches great importance to the development of the magazine industry.
China hopes to absorb excellent cultural achievements from all over the world via magazines, and to bring China's traditional culture to readers in other countries, said Liu, who is also a member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The congress drew more than 1,000 delegates from some 40 countries and regions.
The World Magazine Congress, initiated by the International Federation of the Periodical Press (FIPP) founded in 1925, is held every two years. The China Periodicals Association, on behalf of China's magazine industry, joined the FIPP in 2000.
