The Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Xu Kuangdi, met with Wolfgang Erlitz, President of the Austrian Federal Council in Vienna on Wednesday.
Xu Kuangdi conveyed congratulations to Erlitz on his new post from Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Chinese Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and Jia Qinglin, CPPCC Chairman.
Xu said China and Austria maintain a longstanding friendship, and that the cooperation and understanding between the two countries has increased since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1971.
China had become Austria's biggest trading partner in Asia, and the two countries continuously make new achievements in their cooperation and exchange in the fields of culture, education, science, sanitation, energy and environment, Xu said.
Xu said that China thanked Austria for its adherence to the one-China policy, and would be willing to cooperate with Austria to enhance and develop friendly cooperative ties between two countries.
Xu said the CPPCC is willing to enhance cooperation and communication with the Austrian federal council.
Erlitz asked Xu Kuangdi to pass on his greetings to Wu Bangguo and Jia Qinglin.
He spoke highly of the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries, and expressed that the Austrian federal council attaches great importance to its relation with China.
He said he is looking forward to visiting China soon.
During the visit to Austria, on Monday Xu also met with Anna Elisabeth Haselbach, Vice President of the Austrian Federal Council and Michael Spindelegger, second President of the Austrian National Council.
