Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi on Wednesday met separately with Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.
Wu, who spoke highly of the long-term support by the two Singapore leaders to develop Sino-Singapore relations, said that China and Singapore are good close neighbors who have enjoyed the smooth development of bilateral ties and effective cooperation in various fields since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1990.
The vice premier said that Sino-Singapore relations have been promoted constantly as both countries have been attaching importance to the cooperation that accord closely with their respective development strategies.
Stressing that China has paid great attention to its friendly and cooperative ties with Singapore, Wu said China regards Singapore as an important cooperative partner and is willing to work together with the Southeast Asian nation to push forward the bilateral ties to a new high on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.
Meanwhile, both Goh and Lee expressed their satisfaction with the marked development of relations between the two countries in recent years, saying that such ties should be attributed to the contributions made by the leaders of both countries.
They were glad that China has chosen a road of peaceful development, both leaders said, adding that a stable and prosperous China will not only conform to the interests of Asian countries, but also be beneficial to the stability and development of the whole region.
Noting that the development of ties between the two countries has great potential, they said Singapore is willing to make concerted efforts with China to advance the bilateral ties.
Wu arrived here on Monday afternoon for a four-day visit to the city state at the invitation of her Singaporean counterpart Wong Kan Seng.
It is the Chinese vice premier's second visit to Singapore since 2005.
