China's top legislator, Japanese PM promote cooperation for the better
China views the Sino-Japanese relations from a global perspective, said Wu Bangguo, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, in a meeting with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda on Friday.

During their talks, Wu said the development of the good-neighborly and cooperative relations between the two countries was a common aspiration and conformed with the fundamental interests of the two countries and two peoples, adding that it was also the common expectation of Asian people and people in the world at large.

Although China and Japan differed in opinion on some issues, their common interests were the mainstream, he said. The two sides should view bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective.

Wu said China was willing to develop friendly and cooperative relations with Japan on the basis of the principles prescribed in the three political documents and to elevate bilateral ties to a new stage.

China-Japan friendship was, in essence, the friendship between the two peoples. It was thus of great importance to building mutual trust between the two peoples, he said.

The top legislator said the NPC had established regular exchange mechanisms with the two chambers of the Japanese Diet, respectively, and maintained close communication with them.

The two sides should take full advantage of the mechanisms to boost exchanges and promote mutual understanding and political trust in a bid to advance bilateral exchange and cooperation in various areas, he said.

Fukuda, for his part, said the rapid development of China's economy and its growing international influence were well as the in-depth communication and cooperation between the two nations would make important contributions to world peace and development.

Japan would work with China to implement the consensus the two sides had reached and promote the comprehensive and in-depth development of bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields, he added.

The prime minister also hoped the two legislatures would strengthen their exchanges so as to facilitate the development of Sino-Japanese relations.
