Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun on Wednesday called for improvement in ideological and political theory courses at institutes of higher learning and turn it into classes "truly popular with" college students.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said these courses served as a major channel to raise the ideological and political awareness of college students and played an irreplaceable role in shaping their values.
Efforts should be made to comprehensively promote and upgrade ideological and political theory instruction in college, with an emphasis on faculty training and innovative teaching methods, Li said.
Li made the comments at a symposium on improving ideological and political theory courses at higher institutions.
