(Xinhua/Liu Weibing)A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Sunday called for all news reporters to be innovative while carrying on their predecessors' traditions to provide spiritual strength and favorable media environment for the country's development.
Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when attending a rewarding ceremony held for outstanding journalists on the celebration of China's 10th Journalists' Day.
Li said over the past 60 years after the founding of New China, journalists had played an important role and made great contributions in socialist revolution and construction, as well as in reform and opening up and socialist modernization courses.
He urged all journalists to better fulfill their duties and make further contributions for fast and sound economic growth.
Li also underscored the importance of using new media and enhancing knowledge studies for reporters.
Press and cultural officials and about 450 editors and reporters from across the country attended the ceremony.
