A senior Chinese official Tuesday called on Party members to pass on veteran communist Duan Junyi's noble virtues of selfless devotion and broad-mindedness.

Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, made the call at a meeting to mark the 100th birthday of Duan Junyi. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the meeting.

Duan Junyi (1910 - 2004), was the first secretary of the Henan Provincial Committee of the CPC from 1978 to 1981 and first secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC from 1981 to 1984.

Liu said people should learn from Duan's persistent loyalty to the CPC and pass on his spirit of upholding the truth and seeking truth from facts.

Liu called for people to take action to inherit the veteran Communist leader's virtues.
