Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said on Friday that he is confident of continued growth of trade and economic relations between China and Finland in the future.
Speaking at a dinner banquet hosted in his honor by business leaders from the two countries, Xi said that China and Finland have been enjoying a stable and healthy relationship ever since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1950. In recent years, he said, Sino-Finnish cooperation in science and technology, culture, education and other fields has maintained a good momentum thanks to joint efforts by the two sides.

China has been Finland's largest trade partner in Asia for the past seven years, as a result of ever-deepening cooperation between China and Finland in telecommunications, environmental protection, machinery building and forest industry, and it shows clearly that investment environment and market conditions in China are quite conducive to business activities of Finnish companies, the Chinese vice president said.
Although China has made enormous achievements through 30 years of reform and opening up to the outside world, China is still a developing country with its per capita GDP ranking 104 in the world according to the 2008 statistics released by the World Bank, Xi said. "There is a long way for China to go," he added.
Seeing Finland as a good friend and a good partner, China will continue to draw from Finland's experience in modernization, the Chinese vice president said.
He said that China welcomes more investment from Finland and will create more favorable conditions for foreign investment while encouraging more Chinese entrepreneurs to seek and develop business opportunities in Finland.
Xi said that he believes economic cooperation and trade relations between China and Finland will certainly be even more promising in the future.
Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Vayrynen said at the banquet that the year 2010 is a special year for Finland and China, which will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them and see the opening of the largest-ever EXPO in Shanghai, in which Finland is ready to participate actively.
Finland is a small country in terms of population and landmass, the Finnish minister said, but it is strong in technology.
