Innovative training inspires cadres to study
On the early morning of April 17, all seats at the conference hall of the Guanghua School of Management under Peking University were occupied.

The lecture was special because the speaker was 80-year-old well-known economist Li Yining from Peking University. Li's excellent viewpoints on the topic of macroeconomic trends and spotlight analysis often won him applause.

More than 160 department and bureau-level cadres from the departments of the CPC Central Committee and the central government appeared to have gone back to their school days and were carefully listening and taking notes.

In regards to the self-selection training, the most direct experience of the department and bureau-level cadres is selection. The variety of optional training courses will mostly be taught by noted teachers from famous universities, with flexible teaching methods and time arrangements.

Optional courses include 42 types of lecture courses with four class hours and 357 types of courses in 43 special subject classes with about 40 class hours in three to five days. Cadres can independently select and combine courses to have enough class hours.

Optional schools are the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese Academy of Governance, National Defense University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China and Beijing Normal University.

These seven universities each have unique features and strengths. The selectable time is either half-day or full-day during workdays or weekends and all the cadres are non-residential.

Yu Hongjun, deputy Party secretary of Peking University, said that although most of the department and bureau-level cadres had college educations, they should continue to learn and expand their visions in order to meet the needs of their work in the current era, during which, the pace for the depreciation of knowledge is accelerating.

According to post-class surveys, the cadres are satisfied with more than 90 percent of all classes.
