Actually, Ma said, the communication between the two militaries has not been suspended as claimed by U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, the exchanges only paused in certain areas such as high level visits, but the two sides still exchange views in other areas which we think are important.

The Korea Peninsula security, or the sinking of South Korean naval ship and the nuclear security issue, is another major concern of participants at the summit.

South Korea President Lee Myung-Bak confirmed his government referred the matter of the Cheonan case to the United Nations Security Council during his keynote speech here.

Lee said that "the Korean Peninsula must not remain as a place synonymous with conflict, strife and division. It must now become the cradle of peace in Northeat Asia."

Lee also urged the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to give up the nuclear weapons development.

Participants of the summit also offered their ideas on how to resolve conflicts and enhance cooperation within the region.
