China's top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, has stressed the boosting of development in ethnic minority areas, calling it an "urgent" task in an article in the official magazine of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
In the article to be published Thursday in Qiushi, or Seeking Truth, Jia called for greater efforts to improve the livelihood of ethnic minority groups.
Unswerving efforts should be made to safeguard social stability and unity among China's different ethnic groups, added Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, stressed sticking to the right path with Chinese characteristics and holding high the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics when handling ethnic minority issues.
He also stressed that the system of regional autonomy of ethnic minorities should be firmly adhered to.
Being the right choice given the history and reality of China, Jia said the right path with Chinese characteristics represents the pursuit of equality and development for China's different ethnic groups.
