BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun has visited some cultural personages ahead of the Spring Festival, or the Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Jan. 23, calling for efforts to produce more good works and train more talents in 2012.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, extended festive greetings to figures in China's cultural circles on behalf of President Hu Jintao and the CPC Central Committee, during the visits on Jan. 18-19.
Terming 2012 a significant year for promoting cultural sector development and building China into a strong nation in terms of cultural power, Li urged the creation of more great cultural and artistic works.
The figures that Li visited included scholar Yang Jiang, orchestra conductor Yan Liangkun, writer Deng Youmei, dramatic actor Lan Tianye, ethicist Luo Guojie, former President of the Central Academy of Arts and Design Chang Shana, radio announcer Wang Tiecheng, antiquarian books collation and publication expert Fu Xuancong, and veteran photographer Yuan Yiping.
