BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhou Yongkang met with Victor Gaute Lopez, a member of the secretariat of the Communist Party of Cuba (CCP) Central Committee, on Tuesday in Beijing.
During their meeting, Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, applauded the development of relations between the two nations, according to a press release issued by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee on Wednesday.
"Exchanges between the CPC and the CCP, as well as both nations, have reached a high level. Cooperation in trade, culture, public health and education has scored remarkable progress," said Zhou.
He said China is willing to boost communication and expand cooperation with Cuba in order to promote their respective methods of development.
Gaute said Cuba's people admire the achievements made by the Chinese people under the CPC's leadership and appreciate the long-term assistance that has been offered to them by the CPC, the Chinese government and its people.
He also expressed a desire to exchange experience with his Chinese colleagues regarding Party construction amid economic reform.
Echoing Gaute's views, Zhou said China firmly supports the Cuban people's choice in selecting a path for national development, as well as their efforts to safeguard their national sovereignty.
China will continue to offer Cuba assistance in promoting economic and social development and provide Cuba with the experience it has garnered in the 30 years since reforming and opening up, Zhou said.
