| PD editorial calls for keeping advanced nature of Party members |

Today (Jan.6) People's Daily publishes an editorial, calling on CPC organizations at all levels to conscientiously study and implement the spirit of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and launch an activity of education in maintaining the advanced nature of Communist Party members, focused on practicing the important thought of "three represents".
The article points to the need to build the CPC into a Marxist ruling party which always adheres to the "three represents", maintain its advanced nature and can withstand the tests of all sorts of storms.
The article says that the CPC Central Committee has decided that it will spend around one and a half year beginning from January 2005 to carry out, in three batches in the whole Party, the activity of education in keeping the advanced nature of Communist Party members, focused on practicing the important thought of "three represents". The ongoing central working conference on the activity of education in maintaining the progressive nature of Party members is making all-round plan for this activity.
The article points out that continuing to maintain the CPC's advanced nature under new historical conditions bears on enhancement of the CPC's governance capability and the consolidation of its ruling position, on the prosperity of the cause of the CPC and the people and on the country's long-term peace and stability.
The editorial states that with the beginning of the new stage in the new century, new profound changes have taken place in the international situation, the trends of world multi-polarization and economic globalization continue to develop through twists and turns, science and technology are making progresses with each passing day, competition for overall national strengths tends to become increasingly fierce, various kinds of thoughts and cultures vie with one another to surge forward, various sorts of conflicts are intricate and complex, the strategic plots of hostile forces to Westernize and divide China remain unchanged, and we are still faced with the pressures from developed countries which hold the upper hands in economy, and science and technology.
China's reform and development are in a crucial period, the relations of social interest have become more complicated, and new situations and new problems are emerging one after another. Under internal and external conditions in which there are both opportunities and challenges, the Communist Party of China is leading the people of all ethnic groups of China in building a relatively affluent society in an all-round way, and realizing the three major historic tasks of continuing to push forward the modernization drive, accomplish reunification of the motherland, and defend world peace and promote common development, we must persist in taking Deng Xiaoping Theory and the important thought of "three represents" as the guide, energetically strengthen the building of governing capability and give full play to the vanguard and exemplary role of the vast numbers of CPC members.
