Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), held talks Tuesday with Venezuelan National Assembly President Cilia Flores on enhancing exchanges between the two nations' legislatures.
Li highlighted the important role of the two legislatures in deepening the friendship between the two peoples and promoting bilateral cooperation.
He said the National People's Congress of China is willing to strengthen exchanges with Venezuela's National Assembly in order that both nations continue to learn from each other.
Li exchanged views on Monday with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on pushing forward the bilateral strategic partnership and developing the consensus reached by the two presidents.
Li mentioned the talks, saying that he and Chavez agreed that bilateral, mutually beneficial cooperation now faces great opportunities and enjoys bright prospects.
Flores said that Sino-Venezuelan relations are currently enjoying their best period of development in history, adding that the Venezuelan National Assembly supports enhancing exchanges between the two legislatures, and will learn from China's legislature.
Li is the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit Venezuela since the visit by Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong in 2005.
Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, left Caracas for Suriname on Tuesday morning.
Venezuela is Li's second stop on his five-nation tour that will also take him to Peru and Samoa, an island nation in the Pacific. The tour began in Mexico last week.
