| Chinese vice-premier meets Annan on digital divide, UN developments |

Chinese Vice-Premier Huang Ju met in Tunis Wednesday with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, pledging China's continued support for the UN developments and more active involvement in easing the growing digital divide between rich countries and the poor.
Huang is heading a Chinese government delegation to attend the World Summit on the Information Society which began on Wednesday under the auspices of the UN chief.
The meeting focuses on promoting world development by building "the information society".
"It is disturbing that the developing nations are marginalized during the progress of information industry, although it has promoted social and economic development of all countries as a whole," Huang told Annan.
Huang expressed China's appreciation for Annan over his personal efforts to convene this summit, promising that China is willing to work with all sides to make it successful.
China will also support and actively take part in all other activities of the United Nations to make the most important world body play an ever greater role in promoting peace and development.
Annan said he is satisfied with the UN cooperation with China in various fields and feels encouraged by China's efforts to support the United Nations in world affairs.
Noting China's remarkable achievements in economic development, especially the information and telecommunications sector, Annan said China's experience in this regard is of great help to other developing countries.
China maintains a special relationship with Africa and attaches great importance to its relations with it, Annan said, adding that he expects China will provide more help in the development of the continent.
