China's development provides more cooperative opportunities for Asia: Zeng Qinghong
China will "unswervingly" pursue peaceful development and pay more attention to friendly and mutual beneficial cooperation with the world, especially with Asian countries and regions, said a senior Chinese official on Saturday in Boao.
At the opening ceremony of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Meeting 2006 in Boao, a scenic town in south China's Hainan Province, Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong said China's smooth and fast development will provide more opportunities for regional cooperation in Asia.
Answering questions from delegates to the meeting, Zeng said that 2006 is the first year of China's 11th Five-Year (2006-2010) plan.
In the coming five years, China will improve its mode of economic growth and focus attention on environment protection and resource-conserving so as to maintain a stable and relatively fast development.
By 2010, Zeng said China's GDP will exceed three trillion U.S. dollars, and the country's annual import volume will surpass one trillion U.S. dollars. The energy consumption per unit will be reduced by 20 percent, and the emission of pollutants will be cut by 10 percent.
Zeng reviewed the five-year history of the BFA, saying that with concerted efforts from related sides, the forum has become a platform of communication and cooperation for Asia and the world as a whole. He expressed the hope that the forum will become ever better.
Meanwhile, he recommended Hainan Province to the guests as the primary destination of tourism, recreation and seeking business opportunities.
