Chinese vice-president meets Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew
Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong met Friday with Singapore Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.
Zeng reviewed the development of the China-Singapore ties over the past 16 years, saying the two countries had increased political trust and their cooperation had been fruitful.
He expressed China's appreciation to Singapore for its adherence to the one-China policy.
Zeng praised Lee as "a founder" of China-Singapore relations, and for his long-term efforts and contribution to the improvement of bilateral friendship and cooperation.
He also briefed Lee on the development of Hong Kong and the Chinese government's basic policy on Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Lee said Singapore was delighted with China's achievement in its economic and social development and the growing momentum that Hong Kong had shown in its development under the policy of "one country, two systems".
He also reiterated that Singapore would abide by the one-China policy and oppose "Taiwan independence".
Lee arrived in Beijing Wednesday morning on an eight-day visit at the invitation of the Chinese government.
