Top advisor: Sino-Japanese friendship should continue

China's top political adviser Jia Qinglin said in Tokyo on Friday that Sino-Japanese friendship should be continued no matter what changes take place.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks at a meeting with major members of an association composed of Japanese Dietmen of the ruling parties for the development of Japan-China relations.

Jia said the development of Sino-Japanese good neighborly friendship and cooperation, a consistent policy of the Chinese government, is in the fundamental interest of the two countries and their peoples and conducive to world peace, stability and development.

He said the association has reached an consensus with the Chinese side on realizing bilateral personnel exchanges totaling 30,000 within this year.

This is of great significance for enhancing mutual understandings and friendship between the two peoples, Jia said, adding that the Chinese side welcomes more Japanese Dietmen of the ruling parties to visit China.

Yoshiro Mori, former Japanese Prime Minister and head of the association, said the Japanese ruling parties have always attached great importance to and actively promoted bilateral relationship as it is one of Japan's most important bilateral relationships.

He said the ruling parties will make greater efforts for the development of bilateral strategic relations for mutual benefit.

Jia also met here Friday with Chairman of the Japanese Communist Party Kazuo Shii and Leader of the Japanese Social Democratic Party Mizuho Fukushima.

At a reception hosted by the Japanese Business Federation (JBF)here Friday, Jia said both sides should make efforts to explore potentials in a bid to raise Sino-Japanese economic and trade cooperation to higher levels.

JBF Chairman Fujio Mitarai said China is Japan's important economic partner and the Japanese business community will, as always, make contributions to the promotion of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

The JBF, with more than 1,000 member companies of Japan, has maintained close relations with China in the past years.

Jia started an official goodwill visit to Japan Wednesday as guest of the Japanese government.
