Over 3,000 ethnic Chinese entrepreneurs from around the world gathered here to enhance business exchange and networking in the 9th WCEC, which is held in Kobe on Sept. 15-16 before it moves to Osaka on the 17th.
China's top political adviser Jia Qinglin voiced his five-point hope for overseas Chinese when addressing the opening ceremony of the 9th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) in Kobe, Japan on Saturday .

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the first is that overseas Chinese can live harmoniously with local people and actively push forward the development and progress of the country they live in.

The second is that China welcomes overseas Chinese, with their own advantages, to take part in China's modernization in various forms.

The third is that overseas Chinese can be united closely in opposing "Taiwan independence" secessionist activities in any form, and continuously promote personnel, economic and cultural exchanges across the Straits so as to push for an early realization of China' s reunification.

The fourth is that overseas Chinese, while learning from other countries, can carry forward and promote Chinese culture.

The fifth is that overseas Chinese can help promote people-to-people friendship between China and other countries in the world.

Jia said China's modernization needs overseas Chinese to make new contributions, and can also provide important development opportunities for them.

Jia, who started an official goodwill visit to Japan Wednesday as guest of the Japanese government, also briefed participants on China's domestic situation and Sino-Japanese relations.

The convention, with the theme as "To win with peace, harmony and cooperation and to benefit the world", is aimed at promoting exchanges among global ethnic Chinese as well as those between Chinese and Japanese.

More than 3,000 ethnic Chinese from over 30 countries and regions are here to enhance business exchange and networking in the three-day convention.

During the convention, presentations of the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2010 Shanghai World Expo will also be held in Japan, together with a number of other cultural, sports and tourism programs.

The WCEC has been successfully held in Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Vancouver, Melbourne, Nanjing, Malaysia and Seoul since its birth in 1991.
