Chinese president meets model policemen
Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday met with representatives of model policemen from across the country, extending appreciation of the police's contribution to social stability.

Hu said the country's police serve the nation and people wholeheartedly and play an important role in safeguarding social stability.

"You are faithful guardians of the people. The party and the people are grateful to you," said the president, adding it's an honorable mission for the police to maintain social stability and promote harmony.

Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice President Zeng Qinghong and Luo Gan, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in charge of law and order, also met with the model policemen.

Luo, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, encouraged the police force to sharpen their edge to help create a peaceful social environment for the coming 17th national congress of the CPC and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
