The solution of the problems pertaining to agriculture, farmers and rural areas should be made the top priority of all works, said Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), when making investigations recently in central China's Henan province. Efforts should be made to increase farmers' income and grain production through direct subsidies to farmers and most strict protection of farmland, he said. "We should try our best to adjust the agriculture and rural economic structure, and properly solve the reemployment problem of rural surplus laborers," he said, putting stress on the poverty alleviation work in rural areas.
